Reasons why the beauty world loves Europe

The beauty world is in love with Europe. The beauty world’s love affair with Europe spans decades. Other than its rich culture, Europe is also where luxury brands like Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Christian Dior call home. The desire to deliver the best in quality also seeps into the beauty industry, where Europe is home to many high-end beauty products.

We have compiled a list of the best products as well as some cult favourites you may not already know.

Skincare and Bath & Body

Embryolisse Lait-crème Concentre Moisturiser

We know why French women don’t get fat, and now we know how they get such great skin!  Their secret? The Embryolisse Lait-crème Concentre! Also known as the 24-hour miracle cream, this hard-to-find moisturiser (if you’re not in France, that is) has a cult following amongst makeup artists who swear by it. British model Ruth Crilly of AModelRecommends calls it one of her top must-have beauty products and stocks up on this cream whenever she's in Paris.

Sisley Botanical Moisturiser with Cucumber

Another product we love is the Sisley botanical moisturiser with cucumber extract. This daily moisturising cream rich in amino acids and mineral salts helps to restore moisture and leaves skin smooth and supple. This moisturiser aims to improve skin hydration levels in 30 minutes to give you an exceptionally fresh and comfortable touch to the skin.

Ole Henriksen Total Truth Eye Créme with SPF15

Denmark’s Ole Henriksen skincare line is what one would call “intelligent and cutting-edge”. Ole Henriksen’s Total Truth Eye Crème with built-in SPF 15 is designed to renew and protect your eyes. Ingredients like Omega 3 extracts hydrates your peepers and diminishing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, while micro algae and peptides boosts collagen production to strengthen and firm skin around the eyes. The Skin Cancer Foundation also recommends Ole Henriksen’s Total Truth Eye Crème as an effective UV sunscreen. British model Ruth Crilly of AModelRecommends has used this eye crème all over her face and guarantees that it works just as well.

L'Occitane Shea Butter Hand cream

People say you can tell a woman’s age by looking at her hands, so it’s important to take care of them. L’Occitane’s shea butter hand cream is so popular that one tube of hand cream is sold in stores around the world every five seconds. The hand cream is formulated with 20 percent shea butter, honey and sweet almond extract and vitamin E, with the alluring aroma of jasmine and ylang-ylang essences. Touted as “a must-have” and “a hand bag essential”, this beauty balm easily absorbs into the skin to help heal, protect and moisturise dry or dehydrated skin.

Lush Honey I Washed The Kids soap

This English company produces some of the best bath and body products in the world. It’s star product, the Honey I Washed The Kids soap is the poster child for Lush. This soap is scented with honeycomb and toffee, tempting anyone who walks into a Lush store to pick up a chunk of this baby. Lush is also famous for other bath and body products, such as hair and facial care products.

Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation

Any beauty addict will have you know that, if there’s one thing worth splurging on, it’s foundations. A good foundation helps to build the perfect base for creating a flawless mien. French luxury house Chanel is not only known for its haute couture, they also offer some of the best foundations in the market. They have different foundation ranges that cater to different skin types, so you will be able to find something to cater to your skin’s needs.

YSL Touche Eclat Radiant Touch

Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat Radiant Touch is the secret weapon in the makeup kits of many professional makeup artists. This luminising pen not only conceals any dark under-eye circles, it also brightens the under-eye area. The Touche Éclat is also great for multi-tasking; it can be used as a highlight on the brow bone or on the bridge of your nose.

Inglot eyeshadows 40-pan freedom system

Want to know why eyeshadows from Polish brand Inglot are so highly raved? Here’s why! The pigmentation is amazing; they have just about every colour imaginable, and their freedom system offers beauty addicts value for money. Inglot’s presence at International Makeup Artists Trade Shows (IMATS) in London, New York and Los Angeles this year also helped boost its popularity amongst makeup lovers, especially after numerous IMATS haul videos cropped up featuring Inglot. To sneak a peek at some of its wide range of colours, head on down to Temptalia to feast your eyes on the colour swatches of these amazingly pigmented eyeshadows.

Lancôme Definicils High Definition Mascara

Lancôme’s Definicils High Definition mascara has fibers in it to help lengthen and define every single lash. The brush’s short and tightly packed bristles reaches even the hard-to-get lashes in the corner of the eyes, resulting in long, defined and clump-free lashes that still manages to look very natural. Lancôme’s Definicils High Definition mascara has also won Allure magazine’s 2011 Reader’s Choice Awards!

Diorskin Shimmer Amber Diamond

The beauty world is abuzz with Dior’s Diorskin shimmer in Amber Diamond as the highlighter to have. This highlighter boasts a flattering combination of soft gold shimmer with bronze undertones that will work well on all skin tones.  Temptalia has even crowned the Dior Amber Diamond number one in highlighting. She loves the finely milled pressed powder that lends a natural, glowy sheen to the cheeks.

Yves Saint Laurent Creme de Blush

This unique cream to powder blush offers a luminous, radiant and healthy flush to the cheeks. The luxurious formula of the cream blush feels like silk and its non-waxy texture ensures that it will not break through makeup. This helps the blush colour to stay on throughout the day.

Chanel Soleil Tan De Chanel

Another appearance by French luxury house Chanel, presenting the Soleil Tan de Chanel. It is a luxuriously formulated cream bronzer that easily blends into the skin. This product lends your skin a natural and gorgeous glow that is neither too orange nor muddy, perfect for fair to medium skin tones.

Bourjois Delice de Poudre Chocolate Bronzing Powder

A popular choice of bronzer also exists for those on a budget. Chanel’s sister company, the lower-end drugstore-range Bourjois makes some awesome bronzers, namely the Bourjois chocolate bronzer.  Not only is this bronzer packaged like chocolate, it smells like one too!

La Mer's Baume de La Mer

Enriched with vitamins, botanical and marine extracts, this luscious balm helps to hydrate and treat dry lips. Twigs and Honey loves La Mer’s Baume de la Mer as it literally helps her melt away the dry skin on her lips, while filling in fine lines and plumping up the lips. Instyle magazine has also crowned the Baume de la Mer the Best Lip Balm of 2011.

Chanel Levres Scintillantes Glossimer

With its glassy sheen and rich, strong colours, the Chanel Levre Scintillantes Glossimers are a hit with professionals. Boasting a total of 30 gorgeous shades, this lip gloss is also crowned the Best Lip Gloss of 2011 by Instyle magazine.

Lancome L'Absolu Rouge

The Lancome L’Absolu Rouge is number two on the list of top five best-selling lipsticks in January to April this year in a survey done by the NPD group, and for a good reason too. Beauty addicts love the formula of this lipstick as it provides a sheer pop of colour that is all the rage this summer.

Butter London Nail Polish

Butter London nail polish fans will know that these polishes are not at all harmful. They are known for their “three-free” formula – no formaldehyde, no toluene and no dibutyl phthalate.  Once painted on, this polish dries fairly quickly and levels out into a smooth glossy texture. Polishes from this English brand also come with quirky names such as Yummy Mummy, No More Waity Katy and All Hail McQueen (later changed to All Hail the Queen). With fun names and colours like this, it’s like having a party on your fingers!
